The first annual Chuck Figge Memorial Golf Scramble was a huge success. We raised over $11,000 for the St. Louis Chapter of The ALS Association. The scramble was held on September 15, and we could not have asked for better weather.   We believe it was a thank you from Chuck for all our hard work.

Registration started at 10:00 am.  Each of the 76 golfers received a goodie bag filled with donated items from Kate Riney of ReMax.  They also received 6 drink tickets each, to be used on the course and throughout the evening.  They had an opportunity to purchase Skins and Mulligans, as well as an opportunity to purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win a set of Nike Ignite Irons and Nike Golf Bag, donated by The Law Office of Will Miller.  They were provided lunch courtesy of Steve Geist, owner of the BP Stations in Alton & Godfrey.

Golfers tee'd off at noon, under sunny skies.  Along the course, golfers could try for the Longest Putt, Longest Drive, & Closest to the Pin prizes donated by Brad Joiner of Edward Jones.  Hole # 17, a par three, presented an opportunity to win a new Yamaha Rhino 4 x 4 ATV, donated by John Roth at Midwest Motor Sports.  There were at least two shots that were very close to getting in the hole, but came up just short. Maybe this year will bring us a winner!!

As the golfers drove from the #17 tee to the green, they passed by Ruth Figge, Chuck's widow.  She was sitting under the tree that was dedicated in loving memory to Chuck.  All golfers were given an American Flag, and were asked to place it at the base of the tree. It was a great chance for Ruth to express her appreciation to each golfer as they passed.

As the golfers finished up and came in to the clubhouse, they had an opportunity to bid on the silent auction items and pick up their door prize.  Thanks to donations from family, friends, and local businesses, the auction was a big success.  As the scores were being tallied, bellies were being filled. Dinner was served by Hartford Ribs and it was incredible!  Following the live auction, awards were presented for first, second, and third places in the A, B, and C Flights.

This December, the CFMGS Committee was rewarded for our efforts by the St. Louis Regional Chapter of the ALS Association.  We received the Excellent Third Party Event Award for 2007 at their annual appreciation banquet.  Our original goal was $4,000.00.  They were pretty shocked when we presented them with a check for over $11,000.00; almost triple the amount we wanted to raise.

Our deepest and most heartfelt thanks go out to all of our sponsors, golfers, and volunteers for making this event such a success. We couldn't have done it without you. We are looking forward to another great year, and another successful tournament.

Sincerely,

The 2007 CFMGS Committee
